Stewart has made just one competitive Dragons appearance |
Newport Gwent Dragons have parted company with centre Shane Stewart, who joined last summer from Ulster. The New Zealand-born 28-year-old has had little chance to shine in his short time at Rodney Parade.
He played in pre-season friendlies against a Gwent Premiership XV and the Cornish Pirates, and came on once from the bench against Ulster.
The emergence of young centres Ashley Smith and Gareth Maule has been cited as a reason for Stewart's release.
The Dragons are still seeking to bring in a tight-head prop following news of the long-term absence of Rhys Thomas (chest compaint). Coach Paul Turner says they hope to secure a signature before the busy Christmas fixture list.
