Hayman advised Tait on his decisions for the 2010-11 season |
Newcastle Falcons head coach Alan Tait has revealed former prop Carl Hayman played a significant role in the club's backroom restructuring. Tait sought the former All Black's thoughts prior to his departure to Toulon and revealed changes are ongoing to improve the club's fortunes. "His recommendations made a lot of sense," Tait said. "We're making significant gradual improvements to make this club a much more professional operation." Tait added: "He has been at the cutting edge of international rugby during his time with the All Blacks. "You need to have the right people in the right positions to get the maximum out of the squad. "Every single thing is being looked at in fine detail, and I'm not the sort of person that will rest until I'm 100% satisfied that we have got it right." Tait has appointed performance analyst John Stokoe as team manager and handed Scotland Rugby Union analyst Martin Hastie a video analyst role at the club for the 2010-11 season. "John has already been performing a number of team management tasks during his time as performance analyst, but again having a much more clearly defined role will see us make some big gains in that department," Tait said. | Analysis is huge in modern rugby, because you have to be absolutely meticulous in doing your homework on opposition teams and also your own performance |
"A strong team manager is crucial to the smooth running of the whole rugby operation, and John has the outstanding organisational abilities and hands-on rugby know-how to take us up several levels in terms of our behind-the-scenes set-up. "Martin Hastie will come in and dedicate himself totally to the video analysis side of things, using the experience he has gained with Scotland and Edinburgh. "Analysis is huge in modern rugby, because you have to be absolutely meticulous in doing your homework on opposition teams and also your own performance. You need to know your enemy, and having someone full-time purely doing the video work will be a positive move to give us a real edge in that area. "These changes are in addition to the new coaching set-up at the club, which has seen Paul Moriarty come in as my assistant coach and Richard Arnold joining us as academy manager."
