Coach Alan Tait unhappy with Newcastle Falcons campaign

Newcastle coach Alan Tait says that the Falcons have had a poor season, but they are moving in the right direction.

After finishing 10th in the Guinness Premiership last season, Newcastle lie 9th this term - seven points clear of the drop with three games to play.

Tait told BBC Radio Newcastle: "We cannot be happy. I thought we'd get away from that (relegation) this year but we've been dragged back into it.

"We're going in the right direction, we just need to sort a few things out."

Falcons travel to Leicester on Sunday, before a trip to Sale and the final-day visit of Wasps.

"It's up to us really, we've got three games left and probably one will secure safety," added Tait. "The boys can target one win to keep us in the Premiership.

"Now we've got to look at the areas we can improve in and where we need to sharpen up.

"I know where they're going, but there are still things we need to sort out at this club. Hopefully we will get a few things sorted out this year and keep going over the next two or three years."
