Newcastle Falcons scrum-half Micky Young has signed a new two-year contract.

Young, 20, who has established himself in the Falcons first team this season, was happy to commit his future to Kingston Park.

"Newcastle are a tremendous club with a huge amount of ambition," he said.

"I have enjoyed my rugby immensely this season, we have a great coaching team here with Steve Bates and I'm learning every day."

Former England Under-18s international Young made his first team debut against London Irish in April 2008, before going on to represent the England Sevens team in Scotland, Dubai and South Africa, where he was the tournament's top scorer with seven tries.

Director of rugby Steve Bates, himself a former England scrum-half, was delighted to have secured the Teessider's services.

He knows he still has plenty to learn, but he is working all the time and is already proving to be a key player

"Micky is an outstanding young talent, and we are naturally delighted that he has committed for the next two years," he said.

"He is a really combative player who drives the pace of our game, and he is one of a number of top young prospects to have come through our academy.

"He knows he still has plenty to learn, but he is working all the time and is already proving to be a key player for us even at such a young age."
