Newcastle centre Jamie Noon has played down the importance of February's trip to fellow strugglers Bristol.

Falcons face Gloucester on Sunday and have ties with Brive and Cetransa prior to the Bristol game and Noon says the club must not look too far ahead.

"When we get to that week with Bristol we'll pay massive attention to that," Noon, 29, told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"But we've got important games before then and need results and hopefully we'll go to Bristol in confidence."

Noon is currently enjoying a rare spell with his club side in between England involvement, although with the Six Nations looming he may once again be called away from Kingston Park.

However he admitted his selection is not a given, and is aware that Falcons' form would not attract the attentions of England coach Martin Johnson at the present time.

"I'm not going to lie, anyone watching us and our games trying to select positions for the Six Nations probably wouldn't look to England for a player," he added.

"Hopefully what I bring and what I can give and how I've played in the past will come to the fore if it comes to selections for the England Performance Squad.

"It's key to try to stay in that first and foremost and give myself a fighting chance come the Six Nations."

The England international has 37 caps for England, and has made over 200 appearances for the Falcons, his only club, since joining the academy squad in 1998.
