Newcastle Falcons centre Joe Shaw is set to become the first ever rugby player to be inducted into the 'Show Racism the Red Card' Hall of Fame.

The 28-year-old will receive his award at half-time during Friday's match between the Falcons and London Wasps.

Project Co-ordinator Ged Grebby said: "It is fantastic to see sporting heroes like Joe using their status as role models in a positive way.

"Our campaign is only possible with the contributions of people like Joe."

Shaw's work with grassroots rugby has also won him the Falcons Community award for the last four seasons in succession.

Show Racism the Red Card, based in North Tyneside, is now in its 12th year, and in 2004 decided to honour long-standing patrons and supporters with Hall of Fame awards.

Past recipients include Sir Bobby Robson and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry.
