Flutey had a year remaining on his contract at Brive |
Brive centre Riki Flutey will return to London Wasps in August after signing a three-year deal at his former club. The 30-year-old, who was part of Wasps' Premiership winning side in 2008, suffered an injury-plagued season in France making just five appearances. Flutey told the club website: "I am delighted to be returning home to the UK and to London Wasps." He has earned 13 England caps and took part in the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 2009. He added: "I would like to thank Brive for the opportunity and experience, which I have enjoyed, but I am now fully focussed on getting my injury niggles behind me and getting back to my best level as a player." The New Zealand-born player has suffered from two shoulder injuries this season, limiting his appearances at Brive and ruling him out of England's upcoming tour of Australia. | He is world class footballer, as shown with the Lions last year and as an integral part of the England set-up Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks |
Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks said: "It is great to welcome Riki back to Wasps. He has achieved success with Wasps before and knows what we are about. "He is world class footballer, as shown with the Lions last year and as an integral part of the England set-up. "His ability to play 10 or 12 at the highest level is proven by recent international form at 12 and as fly-half when Wasps secured the Guinness Premiership title in 2008 - that versatility makes him a very special player."
