Flutey joined London Irish in 2005 |
London Irish have confirmed that fly-half Riki Flutey is to join London Wasps at the end of the season. Flutey joined the Exiles from New Zealand side Wellington Hurricanes in September 2005.
The 26-year-old New Zealand Maori representative scored 10 tries and more than 200 points in 23 appearances in his first season with London Irish.
"We're disappointed that Riki has decided to move on," said Irish rugby director Brian Smith.
"He's been a breath of fresh air at London Irish and we'll miss him, but we do have some very talented midfield players in Mike Catt, Seilala Mapusua, Shane Geraghty, Gonzalo Tiesi, Barry Everitt and Nils Mordt.
"Riki's decision not to re-sign has come as a big surprise so we'll take some time to review our squad and decide if we'll go after another big midfield signing.
"While we were able to match his financial demands, he has decided to leave for other reasons.
"He's been a good citizen both on and off the field at London Irish and he'll play a full part in our fixtures until the end of the season.
"We thank him for his contribution to date and expect he'll keep performing for us. I'm sure all London Irish supporters will join with me in wishing him well."
Injury has restricted him to just nine matches this season but he has still scored five tries.
