Ibanez has won three Six Nations Grand Slams with France |
Wasps hooker Raphael Ibanez has signed a new one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2007/2008 season. The 33-year-old, who has 80 caps for France, joined Wasps last summer from Saracens and has made a total of 28 appearances for the Adams Park outfit.
"Raf's work for the club has been outstanding in the last year," said Wasps rugby director Ian McGeechan.
"He's become a very important member of the squad both on and off the pitch."
Ibanez, who has also played for Perpignan and Castres, quit international rugby when he joined Sarries in 2003.
But he returned to the international scene last year and helped France claim the 2006 Six Nations title.
He was also skipper as France reached the World Cup final against Australia in 1999.
"I am, of course, very pleased to have a further year at the club," he said.
"Playing rugby for Wasps and representing the club on the big stage means an awful lot to me.
"I'm very much looking forward to the next 18 months, as there are so many goals for the club still to achieve and to be part of that is going to be very exciting."
