London Irish scrum-half Peter Richards has received a one-week ban for elbowing Sale's Neil Briggs during Friday's Premiership game.

Richards was called to appear before an Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel following his sending-off.

At the hearing, he was suspended until October 12, leaving him to resume playing the following day.

Irish, who face Leinster in the Heineken Cup on Friday, have held their own inquiry into the incident.
