We will learn from defeat - Booth

London Irish coach Toby Booth says his team will learn from their defeat against Munster when they face Wasps on Saturday at Twickenham.

The Exiles went down 35-14 to the reigning European champions at Musgrave Park in Cork.

Booth told BBC Radio Berkshire: "Consistency comes from character and experience and you often learn more about that from a loss than a win.

"We'll be working very hard to put things right for Wasps."

He added: "I didn't come here to come second. I came here for an honest inquest into our squad and how we're performing and I've got that."

Irish trailed 21-14 at half-time, with Bob Casey and Delon Armitage scoring their tries. Niall Ronan, Frank Sheehan and Barry Murphy scored for Munster.

But Munster pulled away in the second-half after introducing several experienced internationals, including Ronan O'Gara, Peter Stringer and Paul O'Connell.

Booth said it was a good work-out for the team.

"It showed us defensively what we need to do if you want to play at the very top level," he said.

"The boys are under no illusion about what they have to do and how far away they are from that."

It was another chance for the Exiles' coach to see the game played under the experimental laws and he said it again highlighted the importance of kicking accuracy.

"We saw at Harlequins and again against Munster that if you kick poorly then you open yourself up," he added..

"People are going to be more patient to play a ping-pong kicking game until an opportunity arises.

"We conceded two tries through poor kicking last week and two more this week - we have to learn our lessons."

Booth added he was pleased that Shane Geraghty played his first full half of rugby since his shoulder operation over the summer.

He said: "I was happy to get 40 minutes out of Shane. I don't think he's happy with some of the things he did. But he made one good break and he's going to get better with game time.

"I was particularly pleased with Alex Corbisiero. He's been fantastic in all the pre-season games so far.

"It was a big learning-curve for Jon Fisher, playing against some world class back-rowers. They will both be better for it."

London Irish versus Wasps kicks off at 1430 BST on Saturday 6 September and is live on BBC Radio Berkshire.
