Birthday-boy Catt keeps on going

London Irish's Mike Catt says as long as he is still fit and enjoying the game then he has no intention of stopping playing just yet.

But on his 37th birthday, he admits he is unlikely to feature against his former club Bath this Saturday.

He told BBC Radio Berkshire he would "struggle" to overcome the injury picked up agianst Wasps.

He said: "I've only managed to put a trainer on - putting on a rugby boot with studs isn't going to happen yet."

He added: "Eoghan Hickey applied himself pretty well at 10 against Leicester - he kicked well and defended well - so we'll carry on with that system if that's the case."

Catt, who is 37 on 17 September, is showing no signs of retiring from playing despite his new role as attack coach at Irish.

"This time last year I was being dropped by England at the World Cup.

"But I've got to 37 and I'm still playing so pretty happy with that.

"The body's in good nick and I'm feeling really good, enjoying it and I'm still passionate about the game, so until I stop feeling that, I won't give up."

And Catt also admitted he still has a good deal to learn on the coaching side of things.

"It's been a little frustrating, watching the stuff like on Saturday - I was back in the player mentality and was screaming and shouting and wanting things to go right.

"It's really a question of me learning about that and finding what can be constructively said rather than screaming and shouting and having Boothy telling me to calm down all the time.

"We've got a hell of a lot done over the pre-season, but I haven't had to do too much because Brian Smith and Toby have put it all in place for us and it's been very successful.

"So we're just continuing what we've done and just fine-tuned a few things."
