Nigel Davies believes the Scarlets could kick-start Quinnell's career |
The Scarlets are considering a bid to lure Gavin Quinnell back to the region. Quinnell, 25, is currently with Italian club Viadana and made a second-half appearance for the Barbarians against the Scarlets on Saturday. Scarlets boss Nigel Davies admitted interest in the back-five forward, saying: "We'll speak to Gavin like we are speaking to a number of players." Davies added: "I'd like to think he'd like to come back. He's part of a great dynasty. He's a local boy." Quinnell, 6ft 6in (201cm) and almost 22st (138kg), has spent two seasons at Worcester after leaving the Scarlets and has always been considered a player with much promise, but who has failed to make an impact at the top level. | 606: DEBATE |
Davies is confident if Quinnell - the son of Derek and brother of Scott and Craig, who all played for Wales - were to return, the Scarlets could help kick-start his career. "With the stature that he belongs to and the power... you can't ever put that into a player and we've got to look at that very seriously," said Davies. "One of the things that I'm excited about is that with our conditioning regime we can be very specific with Gav and work on what he needs to work on. "I think we can make him a lot more effective and a better player than he is. "But we are going to have to wait and see if that ever materialises." Davies is also intent on helping full-back Morgan Stoddart's defence as strong as his outstanding attacking play. Stoddart was Man-of-the-Match with a two-try display in the 40-24 win against the Barbarians in a match to mark the official opening of Parc y Scarlets. "The game probably suited Morgan's abilities and there's probably nobody better than him ball-in-hand," said Davies. "But we are working on the other parts of his game like we are with all the other guys. "Morgan is a great player to have. He brings lots of energy on and off the field and he's been great for us this year."
