Kees Meeuws is out for the rest of the season |
Scarlets boss Nigel Davies fears veteran ex-All Black prop Kees Meeuws's career is over after a ruptured Achilles ended his season. Meeuws, 34, is out following surgery on the injury suffered in Friday's Magners League defeat by Munster. Davies said: "If anybody can come back then he can, but in all honesty I can't say whether he will or he won't." Davies also raised the possibility of signing a player to plug the squad gap at tight-head prop. | 606: DEBATE | "It is a very difficult position to replace and it is not as though they (tight-head props) are growing on trees. "We only had two specialist tight-head props in our squad and this has just exposed the problem. "We have to look at that position whether it is a short-term or even long-term answer." Meeuws' fellow countryman Deacon Manu has recovered from injury to line up at tight-head prop in the Heineken Cup at Ulster on Friday night. Meeuws is the second Scarlet to suffer serious Achilles damage this season, flanker Gavin Thomas having already been ruled out until next season.
