Former England hooker Wheeler was Tigers chief executive for 15 years |
Peter Wheeler is standing down as Leicester Tigers chief executive to take over as rugby director. Wheeler, who had been in his old role since the game turned professional 15 years ago, will represent Tigers on the rugby bodies and rugby-related matters. Leicester say the change reflects the evolving needs of the club as it moves into the next phase of its development. Wheeler and managing director David Clayton will continue to report to executive chairman Peter Tom. Former England hooker Wheeler will continue to advise head coach Richard Cockerill and will also focus on developing relationships with sponsors, corporate partners and other key organisations. Wheeler said: "Our new management structure will allow us to play to our strengths: to maintain and enhance our leading role in the expanding world of rugby, to continue attracting supportive corporate partners, and to best equip the club for the challenges of the new decade both on and off the pitch."
