Leicester Tigers to 'move on' from Lee Byrne row

Lee Byrne
Byrne was fined 5,000 (4,394) in lieu of the ban

Leicester Tigers say they will move on from the Ospreys 16th man controversy after Lee Byrne's ban was overturned following an appeal.

He was originally banned for two games after he briefly appeared as a 16th man in a blood bin confusion during Ospreys' Heineken Cup win last month.

Tigers chairman Peter Tom said: "We will be interested to read the committee's full written verdict.

"We believe that the matter has been dealt with and it is time to move on."

He continued: "We registered our original complaint immediately after the match because it was important to determine the course of events which led to one team having 16 players on the pitch and because an investigation was needed to ensure that this did not happen again in the future.

"The incident portrayed professional club rugby in a poor light.

"We are grateful that the investigation was completed quickly by European Rugby Cup Limited and that the disciplinary hearing was convened within seven days of our complaint."
