Mauger has been unlucky with injuries while at Welford Road

Leicester Tigers centre Aaron Mauger is in the early stages of discussions over extending his stay at Welford Road, reports BBC Radio Leicester.

Mauger, 28, still has a year to run on his current contract.

But speculation in his native New Zealand has linked him with a return home so he can challenge for a place in the World Cup squad for 2011.

All Blacks backs coach Wayne Smith has said two UK-based players were on their radar and may feature in the squad.
