Modest Murphy honoured to follow Corry

Geordan Murphy has spoken of his delight after being named Leicester Tigers captain for the coming season.

The Ireland international expects to follow in the footsteps of ex-skipper Martin Corry by leading the Premiership champions to more silverware.

"We aspire to win trophies and that will be no different this season," the full-back told BBC East Midlands Today.

"Being captain is a great honour. This is probably one of the most successful clubs in Europe."

The 31-year-old will be supported by vice-captains Aaron Mauger and Louis Deacon.

"I'm not too sure if I ever thought of myself as captain material," Murphy added.

"But with the amount of experience we have in the squad and the quality of players it is a very easy job to do."
