Leicester Tigers head coach Heyneke Meyer has said his side must play smarter and be more mentally tough.

The Tigers had to settle for a draw against Harlequins on Saturday after conceding a last-minute try.

Meyer told BBC Radio Leicester: "We need to learn from these mistakes. We need to be smarter and we need to be more mentally tough.

"I really thought we'd done enough to win the game, but in the end it's all about the scoreboard."

Leicester led 23-9 at one stage and were seven points ahead going into the final minute.

There's between five and seven points between the top seven and we're very much in it

But Ugo Monye crossed the line and Nick Evans converted to level the game at 26-26.

Meyer added: "I thought we played well at times but you need to win these games - it's great to win games away from home.

"But there's between five and seven points between the top seven and we're very much in it."
