Tigers character impresses Meyer

Heyneke Meyer
Meyer believes his side can compete for honours this season

Leicester head coach Heyneke Meyer has said his side have the character they need to be competitive this season.

The Tigers conceded a last-gasp try as they lost 25-21 to Guinness Premiership leaders Bath at the weekend.

And Meyer told BBC Radio Leicester: "I like my teams to play with character and we probably should have won it.

"If we can build on this performance and get good results then with the character we've shown, we can be there at the end."

Leicester were trailing 20-3 at half-time in Saturday's game but turned the game around and led going into the closing stages.

"We had a chat at half-time and played brilliant rugby in the second-half," Meyer added. "We should have won it but for lapse of concentration right at the end."

Butch James crossed the line to score for Bath with the last play of the game.
