Meyer's Tigers lost to Biarritz despite scoring five tries
Leicester Tigers new head coach Heyneke Meyer says he is still learning how to get the best out of his players.
Meyer took charge for the first time last weekend on the pre-season trip to Biarritz which Tigers lost 37-35.
"I prefer going into tough games and want to give everyone a run before the first game of the season," he told BBC Radio Leicester.
"I have a better understanding and better knowledge now of what the guys can do and where we want to go."
The South African is also hoping Leicester will appoint a new defence coach in the next few days.
"We want to make sure we get the right type of person and should have an announcement within a week," he added.
"I've learned a lot of things, specifically interpretations of the new laws and had a chance to look at the players so there's a lot of positives in there".
Tigers' pre-season continues when they take on the Ospreys this Saturday at 1500 BST at the Liberty Stadium.
