Key (left) and Back have been in charge of Leeds for a year
Leeds Carnegie want to sign a scrum-half and winger before the start of the new Premiership season in September.
The club have already captured seven players in preparation for their return to the top-flight.
"What we are looking for now hopefully if all goes to plan is a nine and a finisher, a winger type," director of rugby Andy Key told BBC Radio Leeds.
"Myself and Backy [head coach Neil Back] are extremely pleased with the business we have done so far."
Leeds' are keen to bring in a more experienced scrum-half to complement and nurture the young talents of Joe Bedford, Scott Mathie and England under-20 international Dan White.
Key explained: "We have three very talented scrum-halves currently at the club, but we just feel we need a bit more experience around the club at nine.
"We need someone who has been there, seen that and done that internationally and at the highest level be it Premiership, Super 14 or French 14 level.
The Yorkshire club's most recent signing is Welshman Ceiron Thomas from Welsh region Llanelli Scarlets, who penned a two-year deal at Headingley on Tuesday.
Thomas will compete with 35-year-old Jason Strange for the number 10 shirt next season, while rugby league convert Henry Paul can also play in that position, so Key feels they do not need to sign another fly-half at the moment.
"At 10 we have Henry Paul that has the ability to step in if needed.
"We know that both Jason and Ceiron are now definitely here for next season and will do a great job for us," he added.
