Gloucester wing Sharples relishes Churchill Cup chance

Charlie Sharples
Sharples scored 18 tries in 29 appearances for Gloucester last season

Gloucester wing Charlie Sharples says that he is not fazed by the prospect of playing for the England Saxons in the Churchill Cup.

Sharples starts on the bench, with club-mates Henry Trinder and Dave Attwood both starting against the US.

He told BBC Gloucestershire: "It's a step up from the international games I've played before but I'm looking forward to testing myself.

"We have a strong team and USA and Tonga are bringing World Cup squads."

Sharples first came to prominence when he scored a hat-trick at Twickenham for his school side, St Peter's Gloucester, in the final of the Daily Mail Cup. He has since come through the Gloucester academy and been capped by England at Under-20 level.

"I'm a winger and your primary job is to finish the tries and that's what I want to do" he added.

"There are lots of other elements that I need to improve on and that's what I want to do , to add more stings to my bow. First I'm concentrating on doing well in the Churchill Cup and impressing at this level. Whatever comes off the back of that is a bonus."
