Gloucester have swooped for Hartpury's Tom Savage, after he led his side to the National Three South West title. The 21-year-old lock trained at Kingsholm this term and played in the A League for the United XV. "He's got a good attitude and a bright future ahead of him if he keeps on this upward curve," academy manager Mark Cornwell told BBC Gloucestershire. "He's only been playing rugby for four or five years and he's developed into a very physical specimen." Cornwell continued: "Now the world is his oyster and he can go on leaps and bounds and become a first team regular." Savage is the second forward in a week that Gloucester have signed following the capture of Argentine hooker Matias Cortese. It follows the departure of some of the club's key members of the pack including Paul Doran-Jones, Dave Attwood and Olivier Azam. Savage told the Gloucester Citizen: "I've always been someone who's keen to train so if you're given an opportunity it's totally up to you to take it. "I've just got to get my head down, work hard and try to show I was worth a contract and then worthy of selection."
