Morgan may be fit to face Blues

A hamstring injury hit Morgan's hopes of an autumn international call-up

Gloucester full-back Olly Morgan could still feature in their European matches against Cardiff Blues and Biarritz.

The 23-year-old feared he had fractured a finger in Sunday's loss to Newcastle but it proved to be just a dislocation.

"We wouldn't make a decision about Cardiff for another couple of days to let the injury settle down," Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan said.

"He can begin his rehab almost immediately but at this stage it is too early to say when he might play again."

Morgan has been in fine form recently and had been tipped for a call up to Martin Johnson's England squad.

The news means he could yet feature in the 32-man elite squad for the Six Nations.

But Gloucester still have injury concerns ahead of their two crucial Heineken Cup matches.

Winger Lesley Vainikolo has been ruled out for the rest of the season after an Achilles operation, and James Simpson-Daniel and Iain Balshaw have yet to figure in the first team after long-term injuries.

Gloucester's medical team are monitoring Mike Tindall's dead leg. He is continuing to receive treatment ahead of this weekend's Heineken Cup game against the Blues.

The Cherry and Whites are at home to the Blues on Sunday before rounding off the pool stage with a trip to Biarritz on Friday 23 January.
