England captain Phil Vickery is backing his former club Gloucester to beat Munster on Saturday and make the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup.

"Gloucester will win, and win well," he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"I think they are due a good game and they have the fire power to blow Munster away," he added.

"They have had a bit of a dip in form, but it's a huge day, a huge occasion, and I don't think form coming into a one-off game like this matters."

Vickery played in Gloucester's only quarter-final win [against Cardiff in 2001] but is not involved this weekend after his current club Wasps side failed to get past Munster in the pool stages.

He believes Gloucester can knock out the Irish province and maintain the 100% home-win record in matches between the two teams, as long as they retain the initiative.

"If you let Munster get control of the game, it's very difficult to get back at them," he explained.
