Newcastle boss John Fletcher has called for Gloucester's James Simpson-Daniel to be picked for England.

The wing scored a try and played a part in two more as the Cherry & Whites beat the Falcons 28-20 at Kingsholm.

Fletcher told BBC Radio Newcastle: "How the hell that kid isn't playing international rugby I'll never know.

"He's been the best player every time we've played against them, if that guy wants to come up to the North East get him to give me a call."

I just need to play well for my club, I need to knuckle down and play better

Having signed a two-year extension to his contract earlier this season which keeps him at Gloucester until the summer of 2011, Simpson-Daniel has no plans to leave Gloucester, although he still has international ambitions.

When asked what he needs to do to catch England coach Brian Ashton's eye and add to his 10 England caps, the 25-year-old told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"It's the same old answer - I just need to play well for my club, I need to knuckle down, I need to play better and be involved more and if they [England] want me I'm available."
