Gloucester turned on the style to get their Heineken Cup campaign back on track with a bonus-point win over Edinburgh at Kingsholm.

Tries from James Simpson-Daniel, Mike Tindall and Olivier Azam put Gloucester in charge, but Edinburgh crossed twice to trail only 22-17 at half-time.

Tindall's sin-binning opened the door for Edinburgh, but Gloucester slammed it shut with two second-half tries.

Anthony Allen secured a bonus point and Mark Foster added a fifth at the death.

With just one point from their previous two games, Gloucester were desperate for the win and it showed in their strong start to the match.

Tindall opened the scoring after 12 minutes, getting on the end of Willie Walker's well-weighted grubber kick.

Just four minutes later, Simpson-Daniel crossed after intercepting Phil Godman's misplaced pass and sprinting in under the posts.

Edinburgh's gutsy pack mauled their way up the pitch to win a penalty, and when that was kicked to touch, the backs provided a clinical finish through winger Ben Cairns.

A conversion and penalty from Edinburgh skipper Chris Paterson brought his side back into the match.

But Gloucester hit back when hooker Azam was driven over by his fellow forwards after a well-worked maul.

The eventful match then took another turn when Tindall received a yellow card for going over the top at the ruck - and to compound the blow, Hugo Southwell crossed for Edinburgh as the referee played advantage.

A Walker penalty sent the sides into the break five points apart.

Edinburgh made a storming start to the second half as a brilliant Ross Rennie break allowed Marcus di Rollo to squeeze in at the corner.

But back to their full complement, Gloucester surged up the field to allow Walker to slot a drop-goal.

Substitute Ryan Lamb, on in place of Walker, then added a penalty as Gloucester began to establish real dominance.

Some lovely handling skills from Simpson-Daniel set Gloucester up for their fourth try, with England centre Anthony Allen taking full advantage.

And even with the bonus point safely tucked away, Gloucester pushed for more and were rewarded by Foster's late score after Edinburgh's Simon Taylor had been sin-binned.

"We are delighted that we won, but we're pretty disappointed with some of our play.

"We didn't play enough in the right parts of the field and got caught messing about in the wrong areas.

"We've got to be smarter to challenge Edinburgh. For us every game in the Heineken Cup is knock-out, so we can't be worried about next week."

"It's hugely disappointing because we're not massively respected as a team - everyone wants us to get beaten, especially by the English teams.

"But we know we can beat these sides. We wanted to start well and quieten the crowd.

"We've got to hope for more ball next week. We got completely bullied and we gave Gloucester a lot of their points. We need to cut down our mistakes and be more accurate."
