A superb drop-goal by Duncan Hodge revived Edinburgh's Heineken Cup campaign as they earned a thrilling one-point victory over Leinster.

Two tries by Girvan Dempsey and another from Luke Fitzgerald had helped the Irish province into a 24-22 lead with the Pool Two game in stoppage-time.

But Edinburgh surged forward to set up Hodge for the decisive kick.

Chris Paterson landed five penalties for Edinburgh and also converted Rob Dewey's second-half try.

Edinburgh will feel justice was done as they had conceded a controversial try early in the second half which swung the contest Leinster's way.

The visitors were a man and 12-10 down when Shane Horgan's forward pass to replacement winger Fitzgerald went unnoticed by the officials.

That put Leinster 17-12 up early in the second half with Girvan Dempsey having landed an early try and Paterson kicking four penalties for Edinburgh.

But a poor line-out by Leinster handed Edinburgh a scrum and Dewey powered his way over for a try. Paterson converted and then added a penalty to give the Scots a 22-17 advantage.

The match was in its 80th minute when Leinster responded with Dempsey's second try.

But veteran stand-off Hodge stole the show with a drop to secure a superb victory for Edinburgh that throws Pool Two wide open.
