Sean Lineen's Glasgow Warriors eye Magners play-offs

The Dragons look despondent after their defeat at Firhill
Glasgow were celebrating against the Dragons at Firhill on Sunday

Sean Lineen says the effort shown by his Glasgow Warriors side to end their Dragons hoodoo indicated the importance of making the Magners League play-offs.

"Well, you look at the end, the boys were delighted," the coach said after a first home win in six over Dragons.

"Obviously missing the bonus point, that is a Scottish way of looking at things, missing the bonus point and being a bit disappointed.

"But I was really pleased with the way they went about this week."

A 27-19 defeat away to reigning champions Munster in their previous match had allowed the Irish side to leapfrog Glasgow and into second place in the table.

It has been well documented about not having won against the Dragons up here for five seasons in the league

But beating their Welsh visitors by the same scoreline on Sunday put Warriors back into fourth.

The top four sides play off at the end of the season for the overall title and Glasgow sit a point behind Munster and Edinburgh, with Ospreys one point behind but with a game in hand.

"The effort's been outstanding," Lineen told BBC Scotland. "We did not do ourselves justice over at Munster.

"I'm really pleased for the guys to get that win.

"It has been well documented about not having won against the Dragons up here for five seasons in the league.

"It was a bit nervy at times, still a lot of mistakes, but the boys really stuck in.

"I thought there were some absolutely outstanding performances there. I thought the wingers, Colin Shaw and DTH (van der Merwe), played really well.

"Al Kellock, who's got a bad shoulder, he led really well by example and Kevin Tkachuk did really well at loosehead as well."
