Exeter Chiefs can bring in more players - Rob Baxter

Exeter Chiefs still have money available to bring in new players, head coach Rob Baxter has revealed.

Baxter made the comments following the arrival of New Zealand centre Jason Shoemark at Sandy Park.

He told BBC Devon: "It's been difficult - but we can make the funds available, for potentially the right player.

"If we see the right guy and we think he's got the right qualities, then we can still put a decent package together at the moment."

He added: "It's not so much that there's a pot of money there that needs spending, but that said we do feel that we've recruited well."

Having gained promotion from the Championship in May, Baxter was already several weeks behind the other Premiership clubs in beginning his recruitment drive.

Shoemark is now the 10th new arrival at the club since they gained promotion.

Baxter said: "We feel we've got a strong squad of players here, they're complimenting each other, and I think that's the key."
