Tomas O'Leary gets to grips with Scott Newlands at Murrayfield

Edinburgh moved back to the top of the Magners League with a 12-7 win over champions Munster at Murrayfield.

The home side led 9-0 at half-time thanks to three penalties from prolific full-back Chris Paterson.

David Wallace reduced Munster's deficit when he bundled over for the only try of the game in the 51st minute, with Ronan O'Gara kicking the conversion.

Paterson replied with a penalty to secure victory while Munster had the mere consolation of a bonus point.

Paterson knocked over his first penalty in the second minute but six minutes later Phil Godman missed with a long-range penalty attempt.

O'Gara was also off-target with a long-distance effort and then David Wallace appeared to have crossed the Edinburgh line but no try was given.

Scotland international Paterson kicked two further penalties to give his side a nine-point advantage at the interval.

O'Gara missed with his second penalty of the game but converted Wallace's try from in front of the posts.

Paterson maintained his 100 per cent record with the boot with a 58th minute penalty but O'Gara missed with his third attempt five minutes later.

Neither side could add to their score in the final quarter of a disappointing game of mediocre standard.
