Thompson back fit for Edinburgh

Edinburgh full-back Jim Thompson

Jim Thompson is hoping to make a first appearance of the season for Edinburgh on Friday after returning to competitive action for Selkirk.

The 24-year-old full-back, who has been nursing a knee injury this season, started the club's Premier One win over West of Scotland at the weekend.

"It is fantastic to be back playing again," said Thompson.

"The set-back with my knee injury was really frustrating, especially after a productive summer."

Thompson was an ever-present during Scotland A's IRB Nations Cup win in Romania before suffering his injury problems.

And, after featuring during the opening 40 minutes at Philiphaugh, he said: "I was very grateful to Selkirk for giving me the opportunity to get back playing again and I really enjoyed the experience.

"The medical staff at Edinburgh got me back on track and I would like to thank them for their help.

"Now I'm raring to go and aiming to challenge for the full-back position. Edinburgh got off to a good start to the season and got back to winning ways against Ulster on Saturday - I want to help that form continue."

Thompson will be available for selection for Friday's visit by Magners League champions Munster.

Munster, who finished one place higher than Edinburgh last season, are expected to field British and Irish Lions captain Paul O'Connell.
