MacDonald extends Edinburgh stay

MacDonald says Edinburgh are capable of winning silverware

Alan MacDonald says he is confident of fulfilling his potential at Edinburgh after signing a new three-year deal with the Magners League outfit.

The 23-year-old openside flanker has made more than 50 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2004.

"With the way we are developing as a team, I'm confident we can go on and win trophies," he said.

"We've got a fairly young squad, but we've been together a few years and can progress onto the next level."

Edinburgh-born MacDonald said he was content to remain at his hometown club and believed the squad could challenge for silverware.

And following his recent man-of-the-match display against Cardiff - Edinburgh's fifth consecutive home win - MacDonald hopes to continue his good form against Magners League champions Leinster at Murrayfield on Friday.

"Edinburgh have already shown over the past few seasons that we're capable of achieving good results and hopefully that can continue against Leinster," he said.

MacDonald follows in the footsteps of Scotland prop Geoff Cross and new signings Scott MacLeod, Ross Samson and Roddy Grant by pledging his services to Edinburgh next season.
