Veteran Llewellyn signs new deal
Bristol lock Gareth Llewellyn
I feel that I can continue to contribute

Bristol's Gareth Llewellyn
Bristol's 37-year-old second row Gareth Llewellyn has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

Llewellyn, Wales' most-capped player, joined Bristol from French side Narbonne in 2005 after previous spells with Neath and Ospreys.

"When I signed for Bristol I honestly thought that it would be for just one year," said Llewellyn.

"But I've really enjoyed the past few seasons - the club has gone from strength to strength."

Llewellyn, who won 92 Wales caps, has been a key part of the experienced pack which has helped Bristol establish themselves at the top end of the Premiership table this season.

"It's been great to play a part in it," added Llewellyn, who made his international debut in 1989 and played in three World Cups.

"The set-up here at Bristol suits me. We're well looked after and that helps me put 100% into every game.

"Next season, we're looking to take things on a step further. I want to be part of that, I'm enjoying my rugby and feel that I can continue to contribute."

Bristol coach Richard Hill paid tribute to Llewellyn's longevity.

"Gareth is an example to the younger members of the squad," said Hill.

"He is so professional in the way he looks after himself and the way he prepares for games. He's in fantastic physical shape and we had no hesitation in asking him to stay on for another year.

"Last season, he was one of our senior professionals and one of our leaders. In Matt Salter's absence, he has stepped into the breach and skippered the side.

"His captaincy has been inspirational and his level of play remains consistently high."
