London Irish and Ireland flanker Kieron Dawson will join Ulster on a two-year contract in July. The County Down native has won 21 Ireland caps and was part of his country's World Cup squad in 1999.
Dawson, whose 190 games in his 10 years at London Irish include 16 matches this season, said it had "always been an ambition to play for Ulster".
"I'm very excited to be returning home this summer at a time when Irish rugby is on a high," added Dawson.
The flanker, who played for Bangor prior to his move to the Exiles in 1996, has also been capped at Ireland A, under-21, students and schools levels and played for the Barbarians in the 2003-04 season.
He was London Irish player of the season in 2000-01 and helped the club win the Powergen Cup in 2002.
"I have great memories from my time with London Irish, it's been a big part
of my life," he added.
"As a player I owe a lot to Irish, I got all my international caps while playing for them, but it's time to move on.
"Ulster offered me a great opportunity, a new challenge and a chance to return home."
