Meenan would like to return home to Ulster

Ebbw Vale fly-half Mark Meenan could be on his way back to Ulster.

Meenan, who left the province to link up with Leicester four seasons ago, is apparently keen to return home.

Ulster are anxious to sign another threequarter and they may see the former RBAI Schools' star as the answer.

Although Meenan played on the Sevens circuit for England, he is still Irish qualified.

Now 24, Meenan moved from Leicester when he left school to be involved in their Academy.

He played a number of games for the Tigers Premiership side before joining First Division side Bedford.

He linked up with former Ulster scrum-half Stephen Bell, who is now trading his wares with Second Division Cambridge as player/coach.

Meenan, a talented runner with ball in hand, joined the Steel men last season.

However, with five regional teams in the new Welsh scheme of things, home-bred players will be the priority which could leave the likes of Meenan out in the cold.

Ebbw Vale coach Mike Ruddock has been handed the job of building the new Gwent region side, and he may want to keep Meenan in Wales.

Irish qualified

Meenan, a former Ireland U19 fly-half, first caught the eye back in 1998 during RBAI's Schools' Cup win when he tore a Coleraine AI side apart as a second-half replacement.

Meanwhile, Ronan McCormack is awaiting on ratification from the IRFU on whether his deal with Ulster has been accepted.

The Connacht and Ireland 'A' prop is keen to link up with Ulster having agreed terms with Alan Solomons's outfit.

There is also a chance that Connacht lock Rowan Frost will also switch to the northern province.

English-born Frost, who was once on Portadown's books, came from New Zealand, and will become Irish qualified next season.
