Lions in NZ tour blog
With the Lions Test series off to a controversial start, we want to hear from people out in New Zealand.

Just how difficult has it been for British and Irish fans in the wake of the heavy defeat on Saturday?

And how much have New Zealanders been wallowing in the pleasure of puncturing Sir Clive Woodward's optimism?

To contribute, use the form on the right or text 'Lions' plus your message to 81111. Texts are charged at operators' standard tariffs. The service is not available from NZ.

LATEST UPDATES FROM FANS, REPORTERS, PUNDITS & PLAYERS

2210 BST: Chrissie, Wakefield, Nelson, New Zealand:
We are Poms living amongst the most ungracious winners/losers on the planet and the one-sided press coverage has been laughable.

If the spear tackle amd resulting injury had happened to an AB all hell would have let loose!

Having said that, some AB fans next to us at Jade did clap BOD off the pitch in sympathy/respect which was good to see, but why the complete silence from TU & KM?

Not a word about the incident from either has been reported, not even an apology! Hoping for a complete miracle at the Cake Tin on sat, if only to wipe the smirks off their faces...

2040 BST: Nick, Henley:
Despite Saturday's result I'm still looking forward to the long treck to Auckland next week to see the third test.

SCW did wonders in his first coaching job at Henley RFC all those years ago, but it seems as though this time around the buck has to stop with him for Saturday's awful performance.

We can't compete, let alone win, at this level by playing a limited kicking game.

1930 BST: Allen Smith, London and Auckland:
I tip the Lions for Saturday in Wellington. I think their forwards will have enough on the ABs pack to do the job right this time and the ABs will read their own press. Not a particularly good performance by either side. All must improve for Saturday.

1637 BST: Undercover Kiwi
The thing that I still can't fathom is how a side who were well suited to playing in the wet played with a startling lack of wet-weather nous. We've been told that this is the best prepared Lions side ever, but they played like strangers who met in the pub an hour before the match.

1630 BST Nils, Riga, Latvia:
I watched the Test on the big screen in an Irish pub in Old Riga. I was the only All Blacks fan, wearing a black T-shirt, surrounded by many British and Irish tourists. "You're brave pal" they said, but they were only kidding of course. The pub was full at 10am and the atmosphere was great, although in the second half it seemed I was the only one smiling but I know the bar will be full again next Saturday.

1544 BST: Paul, BBC Sport blogger
After a very cold Saturday night left all of the Lions fans downhearted and hypothermic, many of the bars must have wondered where we'd all gone, as large numbers of the fans gave up and went back to their hotels and campers for a warming shower and a hot cup of tea rather than partying the night away again in the all-night bars. After an active Sunday afternoon and evening, Christchurch has been left sweeping up the streets as the mass migration to Wellington gets under way. The Christchurch newspaper did a full circuit of the bus on the journey north, with everyone keen to hear how Saturday's dismal efforts were received back home, and to find out the details of Brian O'Driscoll's injury and the citing process. Grewcock's ban was greeted with dismay but not too much shock by many, since we'd heard nothing of the citing process. On arrival in Wellington, it seems that no-one is expecting us until Tuesday, as the streets are deserted and the bar we visited for dinner decided to shut at 9.30pm due to lack of custom. Perhaps they're gathering their energy for tomorrow?

Getting up early for that match was the worst thing I've ever done and the so called spear tackle on BOD was possibly the worst thing an AB has ever done. Mind you, BOD was asking for it - stood there behind the ruck, the ball miles away where he should have been in the line defending. He got nailed because he was out of position.

1408 BST: Dave, Dunedin, via e-mail
I went to Jade Stadium for the game. The weather was a shocker and it was probably the worst conditions I've ever been stuck in, but it was worth it for the game. The atmosphere change amongst the Lions contingent was just incredible and once Dan Carter made it 14-0 it was like a ghost town. Talked to some Brits and they were just like "please spare me" - us Kiwis just love to gloat.

1329 BST: Murray, Edinburgh, via e-mail
So Jason White has finally got called up. He is the most destructive tackler in northern hemisphere rugby and that's just what the Lions need after the dismal forward display on Saturday. He is also an excellent ball carrier in the loose, another area which was frankly awful in the first Test.

1318 BST: Jon Briggs, via e-mail
It is now 48 hours after watching our worst fears come true and the "Vacancy" signs have come back on around the motels in Christchurch and we've swapped Lions for Cows as there's a farming convention going on. Having taken 24 hours out to go whale watching and sit in a sulphury hot thermal bath in Hanmer Springs, it's clear that Lions fans are here to see some of the extraordinary countryside as much as the rugby. The conversation in the heated pools swung through many subjects but kept returning to what the team might be like for next Saturday. There's no dismay merely a distinct puzzling and scratching of heads - we all felt/hoped that Sir Clive had something up his sleeve but it became clear in the first 20 minutes that he was wearing a T-shirt. But don't feel too sorry for those of us out here. You may have soaring temperatures but we had clear blue skies and watched three sperm whales off the bow of our boat curve, dip and flip their tails up as they dived but feet away and we spotted a southern right whale that has not been seen in Kaikoura Bay for seven years. A similarly rare event of a Lions win against the All Blacks might yet be spotted at Westpac Stadium in five days time.

1240 BST: Keith Peacock, Auckland, NZ
As a Pom living in this rugby-mad nation, life since Saturday has been purgatory. Mention THAT tackle, though, and the Kiwis go strangely quiet. Sir Clive has made mistakes, but we can still shove the gloating down their throats. So come on boys, We can still do it!!

1155 BST: Phil, Auckland
Am I the only one who can't believe Tana Umaga got away with the tackle on Lewsey towards the end? I watched the game in a pub downtown Auckland and even the locals thought he was off for an early bath, how come the National Rugby League has had this sorted for years but Union just puts up with it. All said, though, the ABs were just way too good and will take some stopping now

1112 BST: Robin, BBC Sport blogger
Well things are going great. First night in the campervan wasn't such a great success though, as a 5am visit to casualty after Dave decided to do his first bungy of the tour out of his top bunk onto the worktop will testify. He arrived back later, $100 dollars lighter and 18 stitches heavier, telling us it was all down to jet lag and nothing to do with us meeting a fellow tourist from our club and consuming large quantities of Guinness.
Just to show we can do culture as well as rugby, we watched the blue penguins arrive in for the night here in Oamaru, which was devotion as the temperature here was 0 degrees in the van when we woke this morning. Off up to Lake Tekapo where, so the locals tell us, it's really cold. Are we having fun yet? You betcha.
PS: We have named our van Robinson as it is a steady , if a somewhat old performer and it can't catch anything either.

1100 BST: OzView, Australia, via e-mail
I pity those poor tourists just arriving in NZ with great expectations. Looks like a good summer in Britain and you have left that to follow a poor team in a country that is great to holiday in around December, January and February - but not now.

0932 BST: MTK, Wellington, via e-mail
So much for the rumours about Gavin Henson being on a plane home - my mate just saw him at his gym. I work about 50 metres from the Lions hotel in Wellington and earlier today saw Sir Clive Woodward looking relaxed and confident while chatting with Martyn Williams as the squad disembarked from their tour bus.

0713 BST: Louise Pearce, Havelock, north New Zealand, via e-mail
I'm off to see the Lions tomorrow and so excited as Shane Williams is playing. At last we may have some excitement in this match. Send the Granddads home and inject the Welsh passion!!

0634 BST: Alistair Hignell, Radio Five Live
What we can read into this Lions team on Tuesday is that Martin Corry and Jason Robinson - incidentally the two men who captained England this season - are dropped for the second Test. Clive Woodward said he didn't want players involved in the Tests playing two games a week, so they are probably axed. Neil Back is also on the bench so those three appear to be the scapegoats for Saturday's awful performance. I am surprised there are not more from the line-out, which was a shambles. But either Simon Shaw or Donncha O'Callaghan from this team are likely to be promoted. The absence of Lewis Moody also suggests he will have a big part to play on Saturday, in a back row with Ryan Jones and Simon Easterby - a trio which nobody could have predicted at the start of the tour.

0524 BST: Will S, Brisbane
I watched the game in one of Brisbane's northern suburbs, and I was struck by the support of the locals for the ABs! I thought they hated each other?! Us Poms must be just universally hated!

0447 BST: Martin, Palmerston North
The treatment of the O'Driscoll incident stinks to high heaven. The citing commissioner has now flown out the country. How he didn't see anything in the incident is beyond me. It's illegal to tackle a player without the ball, but Mealamu and Tana did more than that. Their spear tackle robbed us of seeing the one class act the Lions have. Contest over. We continue to treat our All Blacks as gods, who can do no wrong.

0253 BST: Matthew Downs, Minehead
Grewcock rightly got banned for biting, but the citing commission also said Mealamu's fingers "inadvertantly found their way into Grewcock's mouth." Inadvertantly? You mean he was trying to pull him out of the ruck by his teeth, so Grewcock 'bit back'! The Kiwi players spear-tackling O'Driscoll made no difference to the result, but don't say there wasn't intent. They looked at each other before doing it. Cheap shot is the right term for that sort of behaviour.

0137 BST: Nick, Perth
At long last Brent Cockbain has been given a chance. I watched all the Six Nations games and Brent consistently turned in 8/10 performances. I was shocked when he wasn't chosen in the starting party.

0027 BST: Chris, Auckland
The Brian O'Driscoll incident is being blown totally out of proportion. Anyone who has seen the footage will clearly understand it does not warrant citing. There were far "harder" tackles during the game. The only difference is this specific tackle resulted in the loss of the Lions' best player. The subsequent media campaign by Woodward is a rather pitiful attempt to deflect from the real issue: the Lions were inept.
