LATEST UPDATES FROM FANS, REPORTERS, PUNDITS & PLAYERS

2251 BST: Ashley Cheyne, Wellington, via email
I'm a Scot living in Wellington. I'm not annoyed that the Test squad doesn't have any Scots in it. None of them are good enough. I think everyone should reserve judgement of Woodward till the 1st test is over. No AB supporter would slag Graham Henry in advance - if the ABs lose then it's open season, of course.

2217 BST: Pete Davies, Christchurch, via email
Depsite current balmy conditions snow to sea level and freezing southerly winds predicted for Saturday night. I hope Josh lewsey has packed his thermals.

2155 BST: Rugby legend Willie John McBride on BBC Radio Five Live
This team hasn't played together enough, compared to what we used to. They're going to have to play 10 times better than they've played so far if they are to beat the All Blacks.

2134 BST: Pete Davies in Christchurch, via email
At dawn this morning I watched the lights of the Pacific Sky cruise liner coming up the harbour signalling the Lions fan invasion in full swing. The city is set for several days of partying. The citizens of Lyttleton Port have planned to light beacons on the hills above the berthed liner to welcome the British fans. All is set for Christchurch's biggest rugby party ever.

2056 BST: Doug B, via email
I have taught for 37 years and, whilst Clive Woodward obviously has the ability to organise, I am amazed at his 'man management' skills. Advice for CW? If I had 40 children doing GCSEs, I would not let them know before hand who is trying the upper or lower examination - they would feel totally demoralised. If you think you have reached the top don't relax or let your ego get to too large - there's always more to learn.

2020 BST: Denny, Sydney, via email
C'mon guys, get behind the boys and stop splintering into Celtic divisions. The front five is where All Blacks have a chink in their armour and this key battleground is fairly dished out on merit among the four nations. The English boys may seem to have numbers but they are experienced heads surrounded by Celtic world class talent. Bring it on!

1804 BST: Danny, Limerick, via email
That's true about Neil Back, getting his hand in where you don't want it - he did it to Peter Stringer against Munster in the Heineken Cup final a couple of years ago. I didn't like it back then, but he can do it all he wants now for the Lions!

1641 BST: Richie McCaw, All Blacks flanker
Neil Back is a smart player when it comes to the breakdown. I've only played against him once but he certainly made his presence felt that day so I expect nothing else at the weekend. He certainly knows how to get in there and put his hands on the ball where you don't want them.

1600 BST: BBC Sport
Winger Joe Rokocoko scored a hat-trick of tries as the Junior All Blacks defeated Queensland 48-10 on Wednesday.

1549 BST: Undercover Kiwi
Jonny Wilkinson is the new target of Sunday tabloid the Sunday News. This was the paper that printed a picture of Clive Woodward and urged readers to throw darts at it 74 times. Now they have printed a double-page spread called Shake Your Jonny. It has a photo of Wilkinson and advises readers to paste it onto cardboard and shake it vigorously when Wilko goes through his "anally retentive pre-kick ritual". The aim is to "meddle with his mojo" and is "good old-fashioned Kiwi voodoo" it claims. It reckons they'll be able to shrink the goalposts, move the pitch beneath his feet and harden the atoms in the air. I've already got mine ready.

1548 BST: Mike, London, via email
Given the lack of form displayed by most of the backs, it seems an impossible task for SCW to pick them on 'form'. I would like to have seen Henson on the bench to have the choice of playing him at some stage. Also feel that on form Ryan Jones should start at number eight, otherwise, fine choices made. Good luck to the lions, they'll win by six points! Enjoyed the Lions badge!

1525 BST: Gavin B, Lancashire, via email
As a staunch England supporter, I now fear for the Lions on this tour. If there is a large losing score in the first Test, it will split the touring party apart especially behind the scenes. Sir Clive has signalled clearly that form on or before the tour does not matter (Ryan Jones apart) and as such risks alienating at lot of players who quite rightly thought that they would be in the running for the test squad based on Sir Clive's comments before the tour started.

1501 BST: Adam, London, via email
Desperately seeking sponsor to fund trip to NZ and tickets to Test games.

1444 BST: Angus, London, via email
I followed the Lions four years ago and rate it as one of the best experiences of my life. I will not be watching the English Lions on Saturday morning. A great shame that this tour has been ruined.

1323 BST: Clare, Sydney, via email
Just packed the bags for the flight over the Tasmin for the first Test. Can't believe that I actually had faith that Sir Clive would pick the best team. Let's hope that he knows what he is doing and that the players out of position do as well. Will be a great atmosphere and hopefully a competitive game, but where are the stars of the Six Nations - anyone would have thought that England had dominated??!

1244 BST: Mike, Cambridge, via email
I am sitting here completely and utterly bored at work but I have just opened an e-mail that has cheered me up. It is the new Lions badge that Sir Clive Woodward might be thinking of using for Saturday's Test against New Zealand and I thought it might be of interest - so I sent it in.

1236 BST: Zinzan Brooke, BBC Sport columnist
It's hard to make any sense of Sir Clive Woodward's choices but they've left me with a few niggling doubts as a New Zealand fan. Saturday's game is going to be a special - the fireworks should fly.

1140 BST: Dave, Dunedin, via email
Well, the caravans have already started driving through Dunedin enroute to Christchurch having made the trip south to Invercargill. I'm appreciating it because such a pilgrimage may never happen again in this country unless we win the rights to host the 2011 World Cup.

1111 BST: Kevin Moore, Solihull, via email
I will be in Mont Tremblant, Quebec for the first Test, hoping these Canadians like their rugby enough to be showing it on TV. Anyone any ideas where it might shown?

1041 BST: Paul Lake, Bromley, via email
On a stag do in Bratislava, Slovakia and looking for a bar to watch the game in?

1030 BST: Athers, UK, via email
Last night over a beer with my housemate, I refused to try and guess the line up because I was sure Sir Clive Woodward had something up his sleeve. Now I'm not so sure. He's thrown the dice and let's just pray that it comes off, or we are going to be made to look like fools.

0952 BST: Ian Robertson, Radio Five Live
I think selecting Wilkinson at centre is a sensible choice. The first Test is unlucky to be decided by a string of tries, it's much more likely to be decided by goalkicking and he is the best goalkicker in world rugby.

0923 BST: Huw Forrest, BBC Sport blogger Down in Queenstown the Lions supporters are definitely on mass in the town. Most of Wales seems to have hopped over to the far side of the world and judging by the atmosphere in the Pig & Whistle last night they were not happy with the team selection. The omission of Henson and the inclusion of too many 'old Englishmen' has not been popular. There is concern that Woodward or Waywood as he has been called has not picked 'form' players. There is a reliance on performances over 12 months ago. Whilst the Lions wrapped up another unconvincing win against a team they should not have been troubled by, the supporters are not impressed with what they have seen in what is now Test Match week.

0837 BST: Paul, BBC Sport blogger
The bags are packed, and we're starting out on the long journey south. It's a little ironic that we're forced to miss watching one tour game because we're travelling to New Zealand at the time, but we're looking forward to the trip, and excited that we're five days away from watching the first Test from a seat in the stadium. Good luck to the boys on Tuesday - we'll be desperate for news as soon as we land, if the aircrew can't provide an update mid-flight.

0833 BST: Jill Douglas, Radio Five Live
Back in Christchurch after a flying visit to Invercargill, the southern tip of the south island of New Zealand. Barring an international Test match being played in the South Pole, this is the furthest south I will ever cover a match but it was a remarkably mild evening in the Rugby Park Stadium...even the Lions' performance was lukewarm. There was no sign of the try-bonanza we'd anticipated but a win's a win in Test week and Gavin Henson took his tries well. There are definitely more and more supporters arriving by the plane load and our very own Five Live summariser for the Tests, Jason Leonard, arrived on Monday. He showed no signs of jet lag and managed an evening out on the town and then was up at the crack of dawn to talk to Five Live, that's stamina for you. I'm off to see the ABs to hear what they've got to say about Saturday's Jade Stadium showdown then tonight we'll interview some of Saturday's Lions. The Lions management have invited the assembled British & Irish media for drinks tonight (and canaps...I'm guessing Jason will need something more substantial) so will report back before the weekend, keep listening!

0751 BST: Eamonn, Malaysia, via email
I attended a dinner in Kuala Lumpur last night with Sean Fitzpatrick, Phil Bennett and Martin Bayfield as speakers. They were superb. I spoke to Phil and Martin and they predicted a narrow victory for the Lions. I tend to agree. Jonny Wilkinson's inclusion as inside centre might just swing it for us. A first Test victory is imperative or it could be a long and difficult tour!

0707 BST: Tony, England, via email
I can't believe that side, Shane Williams must be gutted, Josh Lewsey plays great rugby at full back and we now have four backs playing out of position. Not that optimistic with that untested formation!!

0644 BST: Doug, Edinburgh, via email
Woodward has not picked as he said he would, ie:'on form'. He has gone mostly on reputation and I feel a disaster looming. The omission from the 22 of Cusiter, Henson and Hodgson will be telling, at the minimum all three should be on the bench. I'm travelling out on the Wednesday before the last Test and hope we are at least one test each at that point or better.

0453 BST: Miles, Bermuda, via email
This is absolutely no surprise. The best Test teams in the world at releasing their outside backs in recent years have always had two footballers who can play fly half well. Look at England's best play in recent years when Jonny Wilkinson and Mike Catt were paired; the rugby was sublime. Jonny and Stephen Jones will be in an interchangeable role depending on where they are on the field. Look at the outside four; BOD, Gareth Thomas, Josh Lewsey, and Billy Wizz roaming from full-back. The attacking lines if played right could be amazing. Two naturally gifted kickers to keep the defence on the back foot and then unleash the hounds...a strategic masterplan.

0330 BST: Ian Robertson, Radio Five Live
The 15 Lions players named for the first Test are exactly as expected. There is one surprise positional switch with Jason Robinson named at full-back with Josh Lewsey on the wing. I think it is a smokescreen to confuse the All Blacks and I fully expect the in-form Josh Lewsey to take that position when the teams line up.
