LATEST UPDATES FROM FANS, REPORTERS, PUNDITS & PLAYERS

Among the kids who won't get to see the 2005 Lions are junior members of Alexandra rugby club in central Otago. The Lions have cancelled a planned community activity, claiming they no longer have the time (quite how, you wonder with a squad that size?) which has caused problems in the south. The club had organised a helicopter to fly in the three Lions players and the whole Saturday morning rugby schedule had been shifted to the afternoon to accommodate the visitors. But now the visit has been dumped and the locals aren't happy. "There's no way I'm going to drive two-and-a-half hours to Dunedin to see them," one told Radio New Zealand. Asked how he felt about the about-face, he said his response was not fit to be broadcast.

1551 BST: James Clinch, Birmingham, England
I'm sure it's a shame for those who have forked out thousands to get to NZ and feel shunned by the Lions, but surely they would rather have attended a successful tour? The Test wins are what this tour is all about, not how good a PR machine we can throw up. Take a leaf out of Will Greenwood's book: "I'd rather be a bag carrier on a winning tour than a test player in a losing one"

1328 BST: Tony Coleman, Beckenham, Kent
Undercover Kiwi must realise any lessons in paranoia come from the All Blacks. At the last world cup in Oz they put a Berlin Wall around their camp and put on a very frosty public profile

1211 BST: Dave, London
I think the scope for an exciting first Test is becoming more limited as time runs out. Jones should have had a full run out against Otago, as should others. How can he a) "plan" to play the Test team against Southland, or b) "plan" for the Test team to have two games "rest"?

1052 BST: Undercover Kiwi
Paranoid pride. Here's a lesson in public relations - PR 101 you might call it. Relate to your fans and win over the enemy. Sadly, the Lions are doing neither. A siege mentality has enveloped the Lions after their defeat to the Maori. Up goes a security cage around the entrance of their Wellington hotel and fans are kept at arms length. Security guards have stopped fans talking to players and hotel management posted notes urging guests not to approach the team. One fan who waited with his son to see Jonny Wilkinson said: "It's like they've forgotten what it's like to be a kid."

1015 BST: Ben, London
Spotted: Lawrence Dallaglio hobbling down the road outside Kew Gardens in south west London. It looked like he'd got straight off the plane from NZ. He was on crutches, his right leg was encased in a protective boot and he was accompanied by three women. Can't all be bad for Big Lol then...

0944 BST: Michael, Coromandel
Sir Clive, still as arrogant as ever. The Lions have a duty to do the off-field work as the teams before them have. They are becoming a real turn off.

0855 BST: Matt, Wellington
All I can say is that us (KIWIS) write teams off and then get beat and it happens all the time eg NZ v France in the 1999 World Cup semi and the NZ v Australia 2003 World Cup semi. I think that if we write the Lions off now we could be in for a big suprise.

0721 BST: Frosty, South Korea
I had to watch the game at my gym as it is the only place (South Korea) in my town where I can find coverage of the Lions tour. I have lived in NZ for the last 16 yrs and I felt like putting my fist through the TV screen listening to Mexted and co. Yes I am a Lions supporter - and the only way we are going to shut up the NZ press and some of the British, is to win the series. Let the media comments roll straight past you and focus on the series - that is the only battle that matters. If we play poorly and win, if we can only score by drop kicking, if we only play 10 man rugby, if this is the worst Lions team in history (as some of the NZ press have stated) - I wouldn't care one bit, as long as we win! C'mon the Lions!!!

0657 BST: Roy Price, Hamilton, NZ
Ex Pom, but better now. Of course NZ is desperate to win. I've never known them to change that outlook. Scared to lose - yes. Better than the Lions - I think so.

0632 BST: Ian Robertson, Five Live
This team against Otago gives further confirmation that the bulk of the first Test team played yesterday against Wellington. Very few of these players have a chance of playing against the All Blacks in Christchurch. In the back division, good games by Geordan Murphy or Chris Cusiter might help them make the Test bench, and the same applies in the pack to Matt Stevens, Gordon Bulloch and the flankers Martyn Williams and Lewis Moody. This is not a particularly strong side but it should still be good enough to beat Otago.

0548 BST: Hayden, Wellington, NZ
Oh dear, you guys are in big trouble. It must be so heartening to 'smash' Wellington 'B' by 17 points? Wellington fielded one of the weakest forward packs in years due to All Black and injury omissions. They only had one training run together. If you continue to pick players like Neil Back to come up against McCaw and co. the Test series could be quite a hiding. One last thing, I think it is disgusting that Woodward has shut the Lions off from the public. He has cancelled his players meeting with high country kids in Alexandra next week to focus on practice. This is incredibly selfish. Those kids live in extremely isolated circumstances and would have been jumping out of their skins to meet heroes that they see on TV. The rugby union had organised to transport them from their stations to town to meet the players yet Sir Clive obviously sees no importance in this. He has nearly 50 players at his disposal, I'm sure 5 or 6 could have been spared for a day to make a few hardy southern kids extremely happy. Your team is doing its best to win no friends here.

0334 BST: bucknblack, Australia
The Lions are just a moment or two away from an awesome performance. They now have the spirit right, the forwards are coming into form, and the back division only needs slight adjusting (get the forwards out of there). This will gel at the House of Pain. Now the Tests can begin.

0153 BST: Undercover Kiwi
The Lions supporters came away a little down from the Wellington match. Not just because the match was a shocker, but also because their side failed to produce the kind of performance that would lay their nagging doubts to rest. But they managed to maintain their sense of humour - "at least we'll win the Ashes" one confidently predicted on the bus on the way home from the ground. Grasping and straws comes to mind.
