Lewsey seemed to struggle with England's defensive system

Wasps coach Shaun Edwards has admitted his players have trouble adapting to England's defensive system.

The Premiership champions use the blitz system, whereas England defensive coach Phil Larder advocates drift defence.

Edwards told BBC Sport: "Our players do have difficulty with England - the things Phil Larder tells them to do are the things I tell them not to do.

"When the players come back from England duty, I have to correct all the things Phil has told them."

Wasps players Josh Lewsey, Stuart Abbott, Tom Voyce and Mark van Gisbergen - briefly - have all played in England's backline since the autumn.

Lewsey was moved from full-back to centre during England's 31-6 Six Nations defeat by France in Paris and seemed to have difficulty with the drift defence.

He was partly to blame for France's second try, by Damien Traille, when he stepped forward aggressively, as he would for Wasps, only for the rest of the England backs to stay back, leaving a gaping hole.

BBC Sport columnist Lewsey was subsequently dropped from England's squad for their next match against Ireland and Edwards admits: "I have a lot of sympathy for our players".

Former Wigan and Great Britain rugby league star Edwards has been linked with a role within the England set-up.

He said: "It's all pie in the sky at the moment, so I don't really want to say anything.

"But one of my biggest ambitions is to coach at a World Cup, as I never won one as a player."
