Lewsey missed the game against Italy with a shoulder injury

In 2000, Scotland ruined the visitors' Six Nations Grand Slam chances with a 19-13 win at a sodden Murrayfield.

And Lewsey warned: "England in 2000 were perhaps a bit ambitious.

"England's record there has sometimes been flaky when the conditions are bad so we need to ensure we approach the game in exactly the right way."

Lewsey - who returns to the team after a shoulder injury - is expecting a tough encounter.

"The Scots will be raring to go. It's in their mentality to come out fighting when people have written them off," he said.

Lewsey has already tasted defeat at Murrayfield this season, losing with club side Wasps against Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup in October.

And Lewsey, one of six Wasps players in England's 22, admits the 2004 European champions approached the game in the wrong frame of mind.

"I think there were one or two individuals who can look at themselves and say they didn't give everything that day," he said.

"There was probably a little complacency and in the cold, wet conditions we did not concentrate on getting the basics right.
