James Hook has caught the eye playing for Wales Under-21s |
Wales Under-21 fly-half James Hook has been rewarded for his good form with a call-up to train with the senior side. The Neath product starred in the U-21s' 34-24 win over Scotland on Friday night as Hook created all four Welsh tries.
Also added to the Wales training squad are Cardiff Blues trio Jamie Robinson, Rhys Williams and Robin Sowden-Taylor.
That is a precaution due to minor injury worries over wing Shane Williams and centre Matthew Watkins (dead legs), and lock Ian Gough (dislocated finger).
All three suffered the knocks in Sunday's 28-18 win over Scotland, as Wales got their RBS Six Nations campaign back on track in Cardiff.
However, with a fortnight to go before Wales' next match in the championship, a tricky match against Ireland in Dublin, the players should have recovered in time.
Wales team physio Mark Davies said: "Ian's X-ray has revealed no bony injury, leaving his training programme unaffected this week.
"Shane and Matthew both suffered haematoma (dead leg) due to impact on the thigh.
"They will both rest and restrict their activity cycle this week in order to recuperate. We will monitor their progress throughout the week."
Meanwhile, on the comeback trail are Ospreys back row Jonathan Thomas (hamstring) and Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half Ceri Sweeney (groin).
"Jonathan has now resumed full training and should be fit and available to feature for the Ospreys this weekend," Davies added.
"Ceri has had a tendon problem in his groin. He is making steady progress in respect of his rehab but needs more time to allow this to settle before resuming full training."
