Laporte has plenty of food for thought after defeat to Scotland |
Coach Bernard Laporte has reacted to France's shock opening Six Nations defeat to Scotland by adding six players to his squad to face Ireland. Flankers Serge Betsen and Olivier Magne, hooker Raphael Ibanez, centre Damien Traille, wing Aurelien Rougerie and lock Pascal Pape are all called up.
Yannick Jauzion, the mainstay of the French backline, remains out of action.
Laporte now has a 28-man squad to pick from and will name his team for the match against Ireland on Thursday.
Laporte struggled to comprehend his side's abject display in Edinburgh, which immediately ended any hope of France becoming the first side to win five Grand Slams in a 10-year period.
"We were nervous, we had trouble getting any control," Laporte lamented.
"Compared to our form in November, we didn't have any rhythm. Then, we were able to win almost every one-on-one contest; here, it was Scotland who won more often.
"There were so many details where our game went wrong, too many points given away.
"Once they got the upper hand, we needed a perfect second half and we never got back into the game. We weren't clear in our thinking."
