Stephen Jones urges on Wales team-mate Mark Jones |
Stephen Jones insists Wales will not change their high-tempo style despite opening their RBS Six Nations title defence with a 47-13 defeat to England. Their attacking intent saw Wales win a famous Grand Slam last year.
And Lions fly-half Jones has vowed Wales will stay true to their creed on Sunday against a resurgent Scotland, who began with a fine win over France.
"I am positive the style we play suits us and that is the way we want to play rugby," Jones said.
"But the trouble with the way we want to play is that if we are a bit off, it can cost us dearly.
"We all enjoy passing the ball and playing with width and tempo, but on Saturday we were just a bit off.
"We were bitterly disappointed to lose in the manner we did. Now we will study the video, find out where we went wrong, work on those negative areas and turn them into positives for next Sunday.
"We do believe in our gameplan and we believe if we can improve on aspects of our game, like the contact area, we can go well."
Last November Wales were beaten 41-3 by New Zealand and it took them the rest of the month to recover before finishing their autumn campaign with a first win over Australia in 18 years.
The scoreline at the weekend was not dissimilar, but Jones has taken heart from Wales' performance for the first 50 minutes at Twickenham, before Martyn Williams was sin-binned and England cut loose.
And he believes Wales have it in them to hit back immediately when Scotland arrive in the Millennium Stadium.
"That was a better performance than the New Zealand game but we have got a big week this week. The performance next week is everything," Jones added.
