Wales lock Brent Cockbain has flown out to New Zealand to replace the suspended Danny Grewcock in the Lions squad. The Australian-born Ospreys forward, 30, has won 20 caps for Wales, having made his debut in 2003, and played a key role in this year's Grand Slam win.
Grewcock was suspended for two months after being found guilty of biting Keven Mealamu during the first Test.
The Lions have already lost Brian O'Driscoll, Lawrence Dallaglio, Richard Hill and Tom Shanklin to injury.
Lions coach Sir Clive Woodward had said that any replacement player was unlikely to be considered for the second Test in Wellington on Saturday.
But Cockbain will be on the bench for Tuesday's match against Manawatu.
Cockbain, who played for Wales in the recent wins over the USA and Canada, is the brother of former Wallabies lock Matt Cockbain.
He is the 50th player to be selected for the Lions touring party and the fifth replacement called to New Zealand to bolster the initial squad of 45 players.
