Jones refused to criticise his front row

Australia coach Eddie Jones insists his side's record run of defeats will make them a stronger side at the World Cup.

The Wallabies' 26-16 defeat by England on Saturday was their seventh in a row, equalling their worst run since 1969.

Jones said: "Out of this, we'll get some good. It's hard to see at the moment, but we will.

"We'll put everything together and have a very good team here. If you take the scrummage out of the equation, we played very well against England."

Australia's scrummage struggled desperately at Twickenham - as it had against France in Marseille a week earlier.

But Jones defended the performance of his front row.

"The guys we have got are the best front row in Australia," he said.

"And the attitude of the guys was absolutely fantastic. We've just got to keep working technically.

"England scrummaged very well and certainly got a decided advantage in that area. It was a fair reflection of our scrummage compared to England's."

Skipper George Gregan, who won his 116th cap against England, also refused to criticise the Australian scrummagers.

"There are a lot of young guys in our tight five," he said.

"They've got great attitude and enthusiasm. I've just said to the guys 'don't let your chins drop and stay positive'.

"But it's been evident in the last two matches that you've got to get a platform in a match.

"If you're starved of possession you're going to struggle.
