Australia captain George Gregan became the most-capped player in rugby history on Saturday when he led the Wallabies out against France in Marseille. Scrum-half Gregan, 32, won his 115th cap - one more than former England prop Jason Leonard.
But his day was spoiled by Australia's sixth straight defeat as the French ran out deserving 26-16 winners.
"It's a great achievement but the loss takes a bit away from that," said Gregan.
"We lost the match at the start of the second half."
Gregan was first player to cross the white line at the Stade
Velodrome, with the other players following him side by side.
He left the field a minute before the final whistle with France leading 26-9.
The Zambia-born scrum-half won his first cap on 18 June 1994 against Italy and became Australia's captain when John Eales ended his international career in 2001.
