Wilkinson damaged his knee in a Heineken Cup game against Perpignan |
England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson says his medical team are "surprised" with the speed of his recovery from his latest injury setback. The 25-year-old suffered ligament damage in a recent Heineken Cup game against Perpignan.
But he told the Times newspaper: "I've had a good few days with the England physios and they said that they are really pleased with the recovery.
"They even suggested they were a little surprised at how well it is doing."
Wilkinson faces between six and eight weeks in total out of action but is hopeful of playing a part in the Six Nations.
Despite the positive outlook after his spell with England's physios, he refused to be drawn over the possible deadline for his return.

"Does this mean I am looking at a six-week recovery rather than eight?" he said.
"That is what I was hoping to hear from the physios but nothing is certain and I know from previous injuries there is a plateauing effect.
"You get an initial sharp improvement and then it slows down for the last bit, which really needs time."
