Simpson-Daniel in action for Gloucester earlier this season |
England wing James Simpson-Daniel could be back in action by the end of January after a successful operation on his injured shoulder. The better-than-expected news will delight both his club Gloucester and England boss Andy Robinson.
"We are relieved that the operation was a success," said Gloucester rugby director Nigel Melville.
"The good news it that we've got a relatively short timescale to get him back into first-team action."
Simpson-Daniel, capped six times, has seen his career badly affected by injuries and illness, but he could challenge for a starting place in England's RBS Six Nations campaign if he makes a successful comeback in Gloucester colours.
The 22-year-old injured his shoulder during Gloucester's Heineken Cup match against Cardiff Blues on 4 December.
